Why the answer changes
Density links mass and volume. Temperature, concentration, formulation, and product grade can all change density. For tank planning or commercial measurement, use the product’s technical data sheet or a measured value and record the reference temperature.
US versus imperial gallons
An imperial gallon is 4.54609 litres, compared with 3.785411784 litres for a US liquid gallon. The same 1,000 kg therefore produces fewer imperial gallons than US gallons when the density is unchanged.
Bottom line
Do not publish “1,000 kg equals X gallons” without naming the liquid, density, and gallon standard. Those three details make the calculation reproducible.
